West Lafayette Trails System

Happy Hollow TrailWest Lafayette began developing paved, shared use trails in the early 1990's, and, a few years later, joined Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, and Purdue University in preparing a community plan that included a commitment to developing a trail network to link neighborhoods, parks, schools, and businesses.

West Lafayette's trails system now has 27 miles of paved trails that connect with more than 10 miles of marked bicycle lanes.  The Cattail, Northwest Greenway, and Wabash Heritage Trails have been designated National Recreation Trails by the U.S. Department of the Interior.  Purdue University also has several bikeway segments on campus; the bikeways are not shared use.  A Campus Bicycle Map is available at https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1a17i21B5Z7YpJ--G3U3Wk9xt0h8&ll=40.42812103594264%2C-86.92161170411464&z=15.  The University is also preparing a plan for future development of facilities for bicyclists on campus.  Only paved, shared use trails and footpaths are shown on the Trail Guide map.

West Lafayette's trails system is managed by West Lafayette Parks and Recreation for year-round recreation and transportation use.  Trailhead signs and information kiosks in several locations help provide information for trail users.  Trail access information signs are also being added to help make touring the trails easier for everyone, regardless of physical capability.
