Leaf Collection
The Street and Sanitation Department provides curbside leaf collection during designated weeks in both the spring and fall. For the upcoming Fall 2025 season, curbside leaf collection will take place October 6 to December 17.
DO:
-
Place leaves loose at the curb (do NOT bag them) between 10/6/25 and 12/17/25
-
Ensure tree branches are trimmed to at least 8 feet above sidewalks and 15 feet above streets to allow clear access for sanitation trucks
-
Pile leaves neatly near the curb for easier collection
- Maintain a 12-inch gap between leaf piles and the curb to ensure proper water flow to the storm drains. Never place piles on storm drains.
DON’T:
-
Use bags or toters except on your yard waste collection day
-
Leave piles blocking sidewalks or roadways
-
Mix in sticks, trash, or other debris with leaf piles
-
We do not accept contractor debris
If you hired a contractor to do the work, they are responsible for hauling it away.
Why Loose-Leaf Vacuuming?
Our crews will be using the eco-friendly leaf vacuum (pictured above) throughout the collection period. This method reduces plastic waste, makes curbside pickup faster and more efficient, and prepares leaves for composting—supporting a greener, more sustainable West Lafayette. By leaving your leaves loose and following the guidelines, you're contributing to a cleaner, safer, and environmentally friendly community.
Collection Schedule:
Crews will attempt to collect leaves the day before your regular trash collection day each week. Please note that weather conditions or other factors may impact the schedule. If crews are unable to collect leaves as scheduled, they will return as soon as possible.
Outside of the curbside collection period:
Leaves should be placed in rigid containers or yard waste bags and set out on your regular yard waste collection day.
Stay Updated:
The full schedule will be shared on our website, social media channels, and sent via email to residents who have signed up for notifications with GovDelivery.
Thank you for helping keep our community clean and beautiful!
