Resources:

Right-of-Way work consists of any work taking place within the City right-of-way. This would include any city street and the land to either side of it, including the sidewalk if applicable.

In order to perform construction work within the City Right-of-Way, the responsible party must obtain a Right-of-Way (ROW) permit from the City Engineering Department. Complete and submit the permit form, along with any supporting information, including but not limited to:

     a) Drawing showing location, size, and depth of excavation(s)
     b) Maintenance of Traffic Plan (MOT)
     c) Certificate of Insurance (COI), specifying the City of West Lafayette as the certificate holder

The Engineering Department has up to ten (10) working days to review and approve/deny a permit application. Any incomplete applications or additional submissions required by the City will restart the 10-day review time.

Please be advised that work cannot begin until a permit has been issued. Any road / lane / sidewalk / alley / trail closures require prior approval from the Board of Public Works and Safety before the closures can take place. In addition, a MOT plan must be provided for all closures – drawings by hand will no longer be accepted.

Any questions about the right-of-way permit process can be directed to rowpermits@westlafayette.in.gov.
