ParkMobile Metered Parking is Now Active in West Lafayette

West Lafayette has officially expanded the use of ParkMobile - the same parking app used across Purdue University—to City-managed streets. This initiative improves access to high-demand areas and helps manage limited curbside space more effectively.

The system was rolled out in two phases:

Phase 1 – Activated June 2, 2025

The first phase introduced ParkMobile metered parking to 476 spaces in the following areas:

Airport Road
Brown Street
Discovery Park District
Mitch Daniels Boulevard
State Street

Phase 2 – Activated September 2, 2025

The second phase added 467 metered spaces to popular on-campus-adjacent streets where free parking was previously common. This step helps address long-standing concerns about all-day vehicle storage and limited turnover in high-traffic areas.

Streets now metered in Phase 2 include:

The island:
1st Street
4th Street
5th Street
6th Street
Russell Street
Waldron Street

Why Did the City Install Parking Meters?

We recognize that switching from free to paid parking is a significant shift. Here's why it was necessary:

  • Increase Turnover and Access: Paid meters promote regular movement of vehicles, which means more people can find a space when they need it - especially near local businesses, restaurants, and classrooms.

  • Discourage Vehicle Storage: Streets previously used as long-term surface lots are now better managed to ensure availability for everyone.

  • Invest in Infrastructure: All revenue from meters goes directly back into West Lafayette’s infrastructure, including:

    • Street maintenance and repair

    • Sidewalk upgrades for safety and accessibility

    • Parking facility improvements

Parking Alternatives

We know that people park for different reasons - and we’ve worked to ensure a range of options remain available:

  • Free Parking: Free public parking remains available in select areas across the city. View locations using our West Lafayette Parking Map.

  • Campus Parking: Purdue University offers a variety of student and employee permit options, as well as time-limited visitor parking. Visit purdue.edu/parking for details.

Using ParkMobile: Easy, Flexible, and Mobile-Friendly

ParkMobile gives drivers flexibility and control over their parking sessions:

  • Get notifications before your time expires

  • Extend time remotely - no need to return to your vehicle
