Housing
The West Lafayette Housing Department is dedicated to shaping the future of housing in our city — thoughtfully, strategically, and equitably. As West Lafayette continues to grow, our department plays a key role in ensuring that residents of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds have access to quality, sustainable, and affordable housing.
Rooted in the West Lafayette Strategic Plan, the Housing Department focuses on solutions that respond to our city's unique challenges — including rising home values, aging housing stock, and the demand for over 3,000 new units by 2030. Guided by Mayor Erin Easter’s housing priorities, we work to address the critical shortage of housing options for young families, city employees, essential workers, and long-term residents who wish to age in place.
We:
- Lead the development of comprehensive housing strategies
- Support thoughtful, high-impact projects like Rambler Riverfront
- Collaborate with developers, local officials, and community stakeholders
- Seek funding opportunities to expand access to housing
- Guide zoning and land use policies to support inclusive growth
As Purdue University and the City continue to grow together, the Housing Department remains focused on vertical, sustainable development that meets current and future needs. We are building the framework for vibrant neighborhoods where people can live, work, and thrive — whether they’re just arriving in West Lafayette or have called it home for decades.
