About This Location

Fire Station No. 1, located at 300 North Street near the Purdue University campus, covers the southern part of the city. Built in 1917, Station 1 is one of Indiana's oldest active fire stations. It's listed on the Wabash Valley Trust for historical places and is one of only a few stations in Indiana with an active fire pole. Station 1 houses one Engine, one Command 1 vehicle and a utility RTV-1:

  • Engine 1 is a 2007 Pierce Enforcer that carries 400 gallons of water and 30 gallons of foam.
  • Command 1 is a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe that is manned by the Assistant Fire Chief of the shift on duty.
  • RTV-1, provided by a grant from Firehouse Subs, is primarily used to fight wild land fires on the city's 22 miles of trails. WLFD also provides EMS at city festivals and other public relation events with RTV-1.
