About This Location

Mascouten Park

In the early 1700's, this area was home to many Woodland tribes.  Because of this the French established a trading post, the first fortified settlement in what was later to become the state of Indiana, called Ouiatenon.  Some of the tribes living in this region included the Miami, the Wea, the Sauk, the Piankeshaw, and the Mascoutens.  The last tribal name was chosen for this river park and translates to "people of the prairie."  Mascouten Park is located along the Wabash River on North River Road (SR43), near Happy Hollow Road.. The park is approximately 18 acres in size and contains a boat ramp and picnic tables.
