The West Lafayette Police Department is a full-service municipal police department serving a community comprised of over forty-two thousand year-round residents and a forty thousand Big Ten university student population

The police department has a staff of 84 employees, including 50 sworn officers whose mission is to protect and serve the community and provide a myriad of other police services. The police department places a strong emphasis on crime deterrence through highly visible patrols including foot patrol, bicycle patrol as well as motorcycle patrol.  A very strong emphasis is placed on education pertaining to crime prevention, traffic safety, drug and alcohol abuse, and child safety programs at all school levels and in presentations and programs to business and civic organizations.

We are dedicated to upholding the highest professional standards while serving the community in which we work and live. We are committed to the enforcement of laws to protect life and property, while also respecting individual rights, human dignity, and community values.

The highly trained, dedicated professionals of the West Lafayette Police Department work closely with all area police departments in cooperative crime presentation programs and joint training exercises to ensure consistent, well-coordinated police service throughout the Greater Lafayette Community. The high standards attained by the West Lafayette Police Department are a major contributing factor in the excellent quality of life enjoyed by the citizens of West Lafayette.

    Statistics were gathered from October 1, 2021 @ 7:00pm to October 3, 2021 @ 7:00pm. During this time, officers took 138 calls for service and jailed 3 people.
  • 2021 August Calls for Service
    During the month of August the police department responded to 2,253 calls for service.
