Message From the Chief

It is an honor to be the Fire Chief of the West Lafayette Fire Department, serving and protecting this beautiful city with such an outstanding group of personnel that always puts the safety of our citizens first.

Their courage, loyalty, and dedication astound me. The men and women of the West Lafayette Fire Department work around the clock to make sure that our citizens and visitors are safe. We respond to over 2,000 calls for service a year. Responding to calls and helping our citizens and visitors is just a small portion of what we do. Our firefighters raise money for persons with disabilities and charities, give tours of stations, attend local high school sporting events to not only show support for our teams but to provide assistance to any spectator or athlete. We have programs to change batteries in smoke detectors and install new detectors at no charge for our residents. The members of the West Lafayette Fire Department take great pride in our community, and it is an honor to serve alongside them year after year. Their dedication to this city should be commended.

My tenure as Fire Chief has been filled with amazing milestones: from record-setting runs and awarded grants to new equipment and added firefighters. Our department is growing along with our fine city. Our Inspection Division is making more inspections than ever, making West Lafayette one of the safest cities in Indiana and in Big Ten cities.

We would be remiss if we didn't acknowledge the great support we get from our Mayor, John R. Dennis, the City Council, Redevelopment Commission, and  Board of Works. Without these individuals, we wouldn't have the best equipment to do our job.

I couldn't do what I do without each and every member of the West Lafayette Fire Department. They are what make this city a great place to work, live, and play.

I am very proud of all of our accomplishments and look forward to all that awaits us in the future.

Sincerely,
Tim Heath, Fire Chief
