Early Childhood Education Center Planning

Post Date:04/27/2026 10:25 AM

 Public Input email header

The City of West Lafayette is continuing its work to plan for the future of early childhood education in our community.

As part of this effort, the City will host two Community Engagement Sessions to gather public input on programming priorities for a potential Early Childhood Education Center.

A site in the northern area of the City is currently being explored. This area was identified during the Early Childhood Education Study as having the highest number of children ages 0 to 5 and an unmet need for childcare services. These sessions will help the City better understand community needs as we continue evaluating whether this site is suitable.

Session Details

Location:

Margerum City Hall
222 N. Chauncey Avenue

Dates:

  • June 17 | 6–8 p.m.
  • September 2 | 6–8 p.m.

What We’ll Discuss

These sessions will explore key topics, including:

  • How different design concepts could support the needs of children and families
  • Site considerations, including access and drop-off experience
  • Outdoor spaces and opportunities for play and learning
  • Environmental priorities, including sustainability, LEED, and WELL standards
  • Programming considerations, such as age groups served and scheduling needs

Why This Matters

This initiative is part of the City’s long-term commitment to:

  • Stabilizing access and affordability for families
  • Supporting workforce participation and economic growth
  • Investing in early childhood education as essential community infrastructure

What This Session Is and Is Not

This session is:

  • Focused on programming and community needs
  • Part of the process to evaluate site suitability

This session is not:

  • A final decision on location or building design

What to Expect

  • A brief presentation summarizing work completed to date, including key findings from the Early Childhood Education Study
  • An overview of initial design concepts being explored
  • Small group discussions on topics such as site access, outdoor spaces, and environmental design
  • Opportunities to share feedback and provide input
