2017 Starting Salaries for Police Officers

  • Probationary Patrol Officer - $50,804 annually
  • 2nd Class Patrol Officer - $55,365 annually
  • 1st Class Patrol Officer - $58,603 annually

Basic Requirements Police Officer:

  1. US Citizenship, age 21 to 35 at the time of application, be of good moral character, have no convictions for felony crimes, and possess a valid driver's license.
  2. One or more of the following requirements must be met:
    -- Completed 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college credit at an accredited college or university with at least a 2.0 GPA based on a 4.0 grading scale; or
    -- Honorably completed 2 years of active US Military Service; or
    -- Employed as a full-time Law Enforcement Employee for a minimum of 2 years.

The West Lafayette Police Department uses Stanard and Associates, Inc. for its Police Officer Selection Test, or POST.  Candidates can now purchase a practice test or a study guide in order to better prepare for their testing date.  Please follow the below link to make that purchase.
