The West Lafayette Police Department is a full-service municipal police department serving a community comprised of over forty-two thousand year round residents and a forty thousand Big Ten university student population

The police department has a staff of 84 employees, including 50 sworn officers whose mission is to protect and serve the community and provide a myriad of other police services. The police department places strong emphasis on crime deterrence through highly visible patrols including foot patrol, bicycle patrol as well as motorcycle patrol.  A very strong emphasis is placed on education pertaining to crime prevention, traffic safety, drug and alcohol abuse, and child safety programs at all school levels and in presentations and programs to business and civic organizations.

We are dedicated to upholding the highest professional standards while serving the community in which we work and live. We are committed to the enforcement of laws to protect life and property, while also respecting individual rights, human dignity, and community values.

The highly trained, dedicated professionals of the West Lafayette Police Department work closely with all area police departments in cooperative crime presentation programs and joint training exercises to ensure consistent, well-coordinated police service throughout the Greater Lafayette Community. The high standards attained by the West Lafayette Police Department are a major contributing factor in the excellent quality of life enjoyed by the citizens of West Lafayette.

  • Suspect arrested in stabbing
    West Lafayette Police arrested Cameo Mercedes Young, Age 22 for the stabbing at 2501 Soldiers Home Rd., Apt 26. Young was charged with Domestic Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Level 4 Felony).
  • K9 Handler Romstadt Places Second
    K9 Handler Elizabeth Romstadt & K9 Barry placed second in the Open Area Narcotics competition at the annual American Working Dogs and Vohne Liche Kennels K9 Olympics held during the week of August 7th through August 11th.
