Garbage Removal

Garbage Truck

The City provides curbside trash pick up to residents of West Lafayette living in houses or apartments of 4 units or less. Place trash out in good quality trash bags in trash cans with lids or toters. Don't pack cans with more than 60 pounds of material. All cans should have tight lids to avoid attracting animals and insects. 

Please do not assume we will run the route the same time each week. We have various driver who may travel the route differently. Have the cans at your property line by 7:00 am the day of collection or risk a missed pick up. Please do not set items out earlier than 5:00 pm the night before your pick up. 

Please consider donating unwanted items that are in good shape. Goodwill now offers home pickup service (855-GW-PIK-UP or in addition to their drop off facilities. Call us at 775-5242 for pickup of metal items.

Electronic Items
Best Buy accepts working and non-working televisions up to 42" at no cost. Electronic items can also be taken to Winski's E-Recycling at 2217 N. 9th St. There may be a small fee for some items. Please call 421-6005 or check their website for more information. 

  Toters 2

The City offers 96 gallon toters for purchase for garbage disposal. The lids are color-coded: yellow for recycling; black for garbage. The 96 gallon toter costs $69.55. If you would like to purchase a toter, please stop by the Records Counter at the Police Station at 711 W. Navajo Street during business hours (M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). Once we receive your payment, we will deliver the toter. Please call 775-5242 for more information.

We do not pick up:

  • concrete, sod, dirt, gravel or bricks
  • tires
  • all contractor waste - If you paid someone to do the work, they are responsible for disposing of the waste.
  • chemicals or non latex paint
  • Electronic items such as TV's and computers
  • Items with refrigerant such as air conditioners, refrigerators or dehumidifiers 

The Tippecanoe County Transfer Station is now accepting household hazardous chemicals. They are located at 2770 N. 9th Street in Lafayette and can be contacted at 423-2858 or 742-7131 or visit their website for more information. They accept paint, household cleaners, pool chemicals, petroleum products, etc. Please stop at the office for assistance when you take items to drop off.

  • refrigerators or freezers

  • anything that would have freon in it
