City Awards and Recognitions

The City of West Lafayette has been the recipient of many outstanding Awards and Recognitions over the years.
 
2011
West Lafayette's Wastewater Utility won the 2011 Safety Excellence Award from the Indiana Water Environment Association, based on its high-scoring audit.
 
West Lafayette's Wastewater Utility won the 2011 Laboratory Excellence Award from the Indiana Water Environment Association, based on its high-scoring audit.
 
West Lafayette's Wastewater Utility continues to be an EPA Green Power Partner as onsite electricity production goals are met (designation received in 2009).
 
2010
West Lafayette's Wastewater Utility won the 2010 Laboratory Excellence Award from the Indiana Water Environment Association, based on its high-scoring audit.
 
West Lafayette was designated a CLEAN Community by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
 
West Lafayette's Wastewater Utility continues to be an EPA Green Power Partner as onsite electricity production goals are met (designation received in 2009).
 
2009

West Lafayette's Wastewater Utility was Indiana's first wastewater plant to be designated an EPA Green Power Partner.
 
Forbes names West Lafayette the Sixth Most Educated Small Town (populations 20,000-65,000) in the U.S., based on the number of post-secondary degrees held by those over age 25; January 2009.

Street Commissioner David Downey has earned certification as a Master Road Builder through the Indiana Local Technical Assistance Road Scholar program.  He is among the first three in the state to achieve this top level.

Development Director, Chandler Poole, has been appointed as a volunteer officer with the International Council of Shopping Centers, a major trade association for the shopping center Industry.  He will serve as a co-chairman for the council's state alliance.
2008

America in Bloom 2008: West Lafayette named top city in the U.S. for 25,001 to 50,000 population category and overall Environmental Awareness Award

SmartMoney magazine (December 2008) ranks a Purdue University education Ninth in the nation in long-term value of a college education.

Country Home magazine thirty-fifth out of 379 cities in U.S. Best Green Cities ranking for air and watershed quality, miles of mass transit, green power, farmers markets and more. Ranked First in Indiana.
 
Purdue University ranked twenty-sixth among the nation's public universities, and its undergraduate programs in engineering and business placed among the best in the country, according to U.S.News & World Report magazine rankings released August 22, 2008. Purdue also is among 14 public and private universities cited for its internship programs in the "Programs to Look For" category. Purdue's College of Engineering tied for ninth nationally among doctoral-granting public universities, sharing the spot with Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. The Krannert School of Management shared the seventeenth position with the University of Notre Dame, Ohio State University and the University of Maryland-College Park among doctoral-granting universities.
 

Purdue University is ranked in the Princeton Review's list of 100 "best value" colleges for 2009, released Jan. 8, 2008. The education services and test-prep company says the rankings are an attempt to highlight "schools that provide high-quality academics at a reasonable price - either by keeping sticker prices in line, or by offsetting high costs with great financial packages."

 

 

Harrison High School is ranked among the state's top public high schools by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce when it came to providing a quality education for the dollars spent per pupil earning "best buy" designation.

Harrison High School senior, Christopher Stewart is one of only four Indiana students who took the ACT exam in September 2008 to achieve a top composite score of 36. Furthermore, Christopher is one of only 52 in the nation, out of approximately 250,000 who tested on that ACT national test date to be perfect.

 

Tippecanoe School Corporation school board recognized as an "Outstanding Board" by Indiana School Boards Association.
