West Lafayette Parks and Recreation offers many options for both indoor and outdoor recreation.  Numerous parks, playgrounds and picnic areas and miles of trails combine for an endless array of fun.  For the indoor enthusiast, programs from the Morton Center or Lilly Nature Center offer educational enrichment.
 
Our area features two of Indiana's top Public School Systems, West Lafayette Community School Corporation and Tippecanoe School Corporation, each boasting award-winning schools, students and teachers.
 
West Lafayette and Purdue University have collaboratively built an innovative, Knowledge-based Local Economy that is evolving and expanding. The 650-acre Research ParkPurdue Research Park, established in 1961, is home to more than 100 high-tech companies with 2,500 employees and offers state-of-the-art communications infrastructure, world-class research facilities, a business incubation complex to help start-up firms and scenic walking trails and lakes.
 
West Lafayette's Wastewater Treatment Utility serves as a national model for waste-to-energy conversion systems.  The Street and Sanitation department, in addition to essential City functions such as trash, leaf, and snow removal, has worked diligently at reducing landfill waste through an effective recycling program. 
 
Because of high-caliber, dedicated Police officers West Lafayette enjoys a low crime rate.  The police department's strong emphasis on crime deterrence through highly visible patrols, including foot patrol and a bicycle patrol as well as routine motorized mobile patrol continue to keep rates low.  In addition, regular outreach programs offered to business and civic organizations focus on education pertaining to crime prevention, traffic safety, drug and alcohol abuse, and child safety programs.
 
The highly-trained, dedicated members of the West Lafayette Fire Department work around the clock to keep our citizens safe. The WLFD provides fire and first responder (basic) medical services to citizens within the city limits. From three stations the department responds to approximately 1,600 incidents each year.
